William Lee Moore

William “Bill” Lee Moore, 92, passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Southaven, Mississippi. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The service to celebrate his life will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m.; all services will take place at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven. Interment will be at Autumn Woods Memorial Park. Bro. Tommy Vinson will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. William, or Bill as most knew him, was born on October 11, 1930 to his parents, Homer Moore, Sr., and Effie Mae Gunter. He was a graduate of Humes High School in 1949. Bill enlisted in the Army in 1951 and fought in the Korean War. He obtained leadership training and later became Sgt. William Lee Moore until his departure in 1953. He returned home to Memphis, Tennessee and began his career as a Railroad Engineer, which he would later retire from in 1990 after many years of hard work. His family describes him as loving, kind, witty, and strong. His dedication to hard work, family, and friends was one of a kind. He left a special mark on those he encountered and would be of service to anyone who needed his help. Bill had a big involvement in many community organizations in the DeSoto County area. He operated the youth sports divisions for the ballpark league, member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, member to the VFW, and American Legion. He was a regular at his favorite breakfast stop, The Country Skillet, where he developed many valued friendships. Bill also enjoyed hunting, fishing, poker, occasional golf, and dancing. Above all, Bill was a loving husband to his late wife, Wanda Moore, supportive father to his three children, and devoted grandfather to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although Bill has departed from our lives, the remarkable legacy he left behind will be cherished by all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Bill is survived by his two daughters, Michelle (Johnny) Williamson and Melody (Steven) Thompson, his daughter-in-law, Kim Moore; his three brothers, Bobby Moore, Homer Moore Jr. (Judy), Roger Moore (Janet); sister, Gale Ramey (Ralph); his eleven grandchildren, Brooke May (Justin), Clint Lemmon (Jackie), Jennifer Holley, Alissa Samoya (Steven), David Moore (Kim), Amber Mitchell (Tim), Mary-Sada Foster (Mark), Frank Scott, Daylon Williamson (Laurie), Kristi Quates (Adam), and Sarah Fowler (Matt); his twenty great-grandchildren, Beau May, Alyssa May, Calie Moore, Sophia Moore, Madi Holley, Colbie Holley, Ryan Holley, Hayden Mitchell, Wyatt Mitchell, Ella Foster, Ruthie Foster, Scott Foster, Adler Williamson, Zoey Williamson, Jackson Quates, Robin Quates, Charlotte Fowler, Gwen Fowler, Cooper Fowler, and Gage Fowler. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda Carroll Moore; his son, Michael Moore; his parents; his brother’s Howard Moore and Boyd Dempsey Moore; his sister’s Brenda Laybourn, Ruth Bartlett, and Betty Jane Moore.
