Timothy D. Carter

Timothy D. Carter - beloved husband, father, grandfather ("Gramps"), brother, uncle, friend, and so many other roles to the people that were fortunate enough to know him -passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2026, in Coldwater, MS. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road, East, Southaven, MS 38672). Tim was a hardworking, dependable man who spent his life putting his many talents to use in service of others and making a difference in the lives of those around him. Throughout his career, Tim wore many hats. He began working as a carpenter, where his abilities to build and create were always on full display. Later, Tim became a retail store manager, and he eventually served as general manager at Shoe Carnival, where he led and mentored his one-time employees and now dear friends. Tim had a natural talent for fixing things. If something was broken, he was the person you called. He could build, repair, and figure out just about anything, often finding a way to make things work when others couldn't. He took pride in being able to lend a hand and solve a problem in all areas of the lives of his family and friends. As a native of Aurora, Illinois, he had a lifelong love of Chicago sports and was a devoted Cubs and Bears fan. He spent countless hours with his wife and boys and their friends watching the Cubs and Bears, rooting for them through thick and thin. And any time Tim had a chance to get back to Chicago to watch his teams in person, he took it. In later years, Tim became something of a musical theater and art aficionado, as he supported his grandchildren in their pursuits and projects. At home, Tim found great enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life. He loved watching the deer, squirrels, and birds that visited his home and built feeders and houses for them so he could enjoy watching them up close. Those quiet moments of observing nature reflected his appreciation for the everyday things that brought him happiness. Tim also had a special talent for bringing people together. He became something of a matchmaker during his years at Shoe Carnival, successfully introducing and bringing together two couples who found love through connections made at work and now have children of their own. It was just another way Tim had of making a positive impact on the lives of others. Tim leaves behind his wife, Susan Carter of Coldwater; his sons, Jake Dickerson of Memphis and Josh (Melanie) Dickerson of Denver; his grandchildren, Laney Dickerson and William Beeman, both of Hernando, and Carter and Haskell Dickerson, both of Denver; his sister Deborah Sherman of Batesville; his nephews Justin Sherman, Jeromy Sherman, Loren Brown, and Josh Brown; his two precious dogs, Angel and Rocky; a host of extended family members; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his father, W. D. Carter; his mother and step father, Ruth and Loren "Pop" Wicks; and his brother Michael Brown. Tim will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
