Roy Gaylon Ferguson

Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Roy Gaylon Ferguson, 99, of Memphis, TN, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 11:00 am until 12:00 pm with the service to follow at 12:00 pm at Coleman Funeral Home (6815 Parkview Blvd., Olive Branch, MS). Mr. Winston “Wink” Rush will officiate. The interment will be held at a later date at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery (400 Forest Hill Irene, Memphis, TN). Gaylon was born May 3, 1923, in Crutchfield, KY. Gaylon worked as a trim carpenter. Before coming to Memphis, he lived in Colorado Springs while he was employed to help build the Air Force Academy. He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church. Gaylon loved his St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. Gaylon never met a stranger and had a very dry wit and was always cracking jokes. He was a kind-hearted man who never complained about anything and everyone who met him loved him. Gaylon played the guitar and was a skilled singer. He often led singing at his assisted living. Gaylon was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a family man and a great role model to them. He enjoyed spending his free time with them and especially enjoyed bringing his grandchildren fishing with him. He was married to the love of his life, Joann, for seventy two years. He put her first and always made sure she was taken care of before himself. Gaylon will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Gaylon is survived by his wife, Joann Ferguson of Memphis, TN; sons, Gary Eugene Ferguson (Ella Rebecca "Becky" Hill) of Wildersville, TN, and Keith Lynn Ferguson (Martha) of Olive Branch, MS; granddaughter, Angela Ferguson Danner (Craig) of Memphis, TN; grandsons, Christopher Ross Ferguson (Kristen) of Terry, MS, Adam Matthew Ferguson of Olive Branch, MS, and Justin Michael Ferguson of Great Falls, MT; great-granddaughters, Kayla Marie Ferguson of Bartlett, TN, Henley Rae Ferguson of Slidell, LA, and Hannah Brooke Danner of Memphis, TN; sister, Doris Jean Harrison of Fulton, KY; and brother, James Allen Ferguson (Jeanette) of GA. Gaylon was preceded in death by his parents, Ida Mae and Tee Roy Ferguson; sisters, Alla Mae Guill, Mildred Catherine Harrison, Reba Eunice Stoker, Helen Frances Campbell, and Evelyn Sue Ferguson; brothers, Willard Dallas Ferguson, Homer Brent Ferguson, Elvis J. Ferguson, and Clifton Neil Ferguson. In lieu of traditional flowers, memorials can be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). In honor of Roy Gaylon Ferguson's service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home the day of the services.
