Raymond "Ray" E. Cain

Raymond E. Cain, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022, surrounded by his love ones. A visitation will take place Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a service following at 2:00 p.m., both at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. Bro. Wes Hughes will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ray, as he was better known as, was the 5th born to the late Julian and Ethel Cain on August 31, 1943. Too young to truly understand his significance, Ray was the last born to his mother, Ethel before she passed shortly after his birth. Growing up, Ray attended college and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Manufacturing, that later employed him as a Quality Control Supervisor for the Whirlpool Corporation. He worked there for over twenty years to provide for his family until retirement. Being a native of the Oxford/ Lafayette Community, Ray was a very familiar face to those around him. He was an active member of the congregation at Calvary Baptist Church. He kept in contact with his former coworkers, participating in the monthly Whirlpool Lunch Bunch. He remained active in retirement by walking at the activity center four days per week. During his daily adventures to the activity center, Ray made many special friends, Mrs. Molly and Mrs. Betty, who referred to him as the “candy man” for all the special treats he would bring them on their laps around the track. He was best known as a friendly spirit and had a personality that created friendships everywhere he went. He was never afraid to make his presence known in any setting and those around him loved him for it. On the nights he spent out with his loved ones, you could find him on the dance floor, or on stage singing karaoke, preferably an “O’ Brother Where Art Thou” song. He truly was the life of any party and to know him was to love him. Above all, Ray was a loving husband to his wife of 33 years, Norma Lynn Cain, and father to the two children they both shared. He later served as a “pepaw” to his grandchildren, and a great friend to all. Although Ray has departed from this life, his carefree personality, dancing skills, and great love will be held tight in the memory of those who loved him the most. Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Norma Lynn Cain, of Oxford; his granddaughter, Zoe Cain, of Dallas, TX; and a grandson, Zach Cain, of New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his sons, Brent Cain and Scotty Tallant; his parents, Julian and Ethel Cain; his step-mother, Dara Mae Cain; his sisters, Mildred Knight, Ruth Sharrer, and Catherine Hudson; and one brother, Archie Cain.
