Nora Coleman

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Nora Lynn Nelson Coleman, 81, of Nesbit, went to be with her Lord Monday night, June 11, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Nelson and Eunice Barton Nelson; her sisters, Elizabeth Gregory and Janie Jones; and her infant daughter, Lisa Fay Coleman. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Marlin Coleman; daughters, Robbie (Harry) Phillips and Rhonda (Keith) Whiting; grandchildren, Grace Marie “Gracie” (Tyler) Stevenson; Rebecca Phillips; Lauren and Matthew Whiting; her sister, Erma (Jimmy) Herndon of Southaven; her brothers, Billy Ray (Sally) Nelson of Pontotoc; Bobby (Wanda) Nelson of Southaven; and Tommy Nelson of Mercer, TN. Her children, grandchildren, and family were the joy of her life. She was their biggest fan in all of their activities. She was a member of Broadway Baptist Church for 50 years where she served in the church nursery and was an active member of her ladies’ Sunday School class. She dearly loved and served all of the ladies in her class as they did her. She was a retired bookkeeper from many credit unions including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Hunt-Wesson Refinery, Binswanger Glass Company, Stratton-Warren Hardware, Memphis Meat Packing Company, and William R. Moore Dry Goods. She also ran a Day Care out of her home for many years when her daughters were young. Her earnings from both careers were used for the expenses of competitive artistic roller skating lessons for her daughters and the travel required nationally and abroad for their competitions. Her hobbies included fishing, “couponing”, reading, and attending sporting events. Before her illness, she was an active member of the DeSoto Athletic Club’s water aerobics class where she attended five days a week. She became good friends with many of her “exercise buddies” and the instructors. She will be remembered with great love for her devotion to her Lord, her family, and her friends. Services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 12 p.m. at Broadway Baptist Church. Interment will be at Memphis Memory Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to Broadway Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford has been entrusted with the arrangements.
