Milton Noel Montgomery

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Milton Noel Montgomery, 81, passed away on March 26, 2026, at the home of his daughter in Red Banks, Mississippi. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel. Interment will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery, with military honors at the graveside. Milton Noel Montgomery was born on August 31, 1944, in rural Lafayette County as one of the sons born to the late Milton Montgomery and Thelma Peeples Montgomery. He worked as a soda jerk (as he liked to call himself) at the Ole Miss Drive-Inn. He graduated from University High School. He had many jobs around Oxford, including Ole Miss Delivery Service and Fudge's Grocery Store. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed overseas in Korea. He spent 42 years at J.E. Neilson Co. as a shoe buyer and department manager. It was said many times that you could walk into Neilson's just to look at shoes, and before you knew it, he would help you buy a pair. He enjoyed talking and meeting people over the years. He and his wife, Patricia, were married for 48 years, and together they loved working, gardening, and spending time with family. Among his hobbies, Noel especially enjoyed gardening, watching old western movies, and going to antique car shows. Many of his greatest joys came from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He found particular happiness in babysitting them. Noel is survived by his wife, Patricia Montgomery; daughter, Melissa Hughes (Guy) of Red Banks, MS; and son, Rufus Tubbs of Oxford, five grandchildren, Taylor Tubbs of Birmingham, AL, Dr. Joshua Hughes (Joy) of Denver, Colorado, Leah Lam (Son) of Oxford, MS, Kristen Barton (Jonathan) of Mobile, AL, Caleb Hughes of Red Banks, MS; 11 great-grandchildren; Eddy, Esme, Paxton, Asher, Ryker, Hughes, Baby Lam, Jackson, Hattie, Ann Brooks, and Davis. He is also survived by his brother, William B. Montgomery (Tina) of Lachine, Michigan, and a sister, Mary Hellon Sollie of Lewisville, Tennessee. 3 nieces and 5 nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Montgomery and Thelma Peeples Montgomery, and his brothers, Terry Montgomery and Waymon Montgomery.
