Linda Hoagland Bechtel

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Linda Amelia Hoagland Bechtel, 85, of Oxford, Mississippi, went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi with her daughter, Lisa, by her side. On Saturday, July 20, Linda will be remembered during services at North Oxford Baptist Church, 304 County Road 101, Oxford, MS 38655). Friends and Family can gather at noon to share remembrances of Linda. Her memorial service will begin at 1 pm and be led by Bro. Chris Williams. Linda’s ashes will be scattered at a special place in this world at a later time. Linda was born on June 21, 1939 in Alabama. She was the oldest of four children born to the late Clemey Hoagland and Laura Sherrell Hoagland. Linda grew up in rural Alabama south of Birmingham where she learned to love the Lord, learned the values of hard work and supported her family – especially her younger siblings. After graduating from high school, Linda moved to the big city of Birmingham where she worked in various jobs until she met and fell in love with Dwight, one of the notorious, but fun-loving “Bechtel Boys”. Linda was united in marriage to Dwight Bechtel on December 31, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Vincent, Alabama. Dwight and Linda shared over 63 years of love, life, children, family and friends. Dwight passed away in March 2023. Linda was baptized as a young girl and was a lifelong servant of Jesus. She was actively involved in helping and enriching the lives of others through her church and community wherever she and her family lived (Chicago, Johnson City, TN; Huntsville, AL; Atlanta, GA area; Bartlett, TN; and Oxford, MS). In addition to supporting her husband and raising two active little girls, Linda worked in several government offices in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. After retirement, Linda and Dwight moved to Bartlett, Tennessee (near Memphis) to be close to and have more opportunities to spoil their grandchildren. Those who will continue to treasure Linda’s memory include: · Two daughters, Lisa (Gary) Maxwell of Oxford, MS and Leslie (Kay Armstrong) Bechtel of Flowery, GA; · Two sisters: Alta Caddell, and Becky (Marion) Watson; · One sister-in-law: Linda Ann Hoagland; · Three grandchildren: Kristin Oglesby, Rachel (James) Triplett, and Barrett Oglesby · As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight; one brother, Alvin Hoagland; three brothers-in-law, Rudy Caddell; Wayne (Peggy) Bechtel; and Lewis (Sarah) Bechtel.
