Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mr. Joseph Andrew Johnson, 56, passed away on April 29, 2026. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). Joseph was born on January 22, 1970 in Mississippi. Throughout his life, Joseph exemplified extraordinary dedication, leadership, and integrity in every role he undertook. He devoted decades of service to improving the lives of others through healthcare administration, county government, finance, mental health services, and community involvement. Whether leading large healthcare facilities like North Mississippi Regional Center, managing wealth that people spent their entire life building with New York Life, serving as a trusted advisor and administrator for Lafayette County, or mentoring others in his community as an ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce, Joseph approached every responsibility with unmatched work ethic, fairness, wisdom, and compassion. His accomplishments reflected not only his intelligence and determination, but also his unwavering commitment to doing every job to the very fullest of his ability. Some of his many accomplishments included earning recognition as a “Top 40 Under 40” recipient by the Mississippi Business Journal and receiving the Hank Bufkin Award from the Middle Mississippi Football Officials Association. Apart from his impressive professional career, Joseph was one of the most talented and intelligent family men one could ever know. Though his exterior was businesslike and no nonsense, he was a soft and gentle soul, guided by a deep compassion for others. He had a true passion for serving, evident in the careers he chose and the quiet acts of kindness he offered. He carried a warm, witty sense of humor that many didn’t always get to see. His greatest pride and joy were his beautiful wife, daughter, and son, and his love for SEC football and 80s music was unmatched. An Eagle Scout through and through, he lived the promise to be loyal, helpful, trustworthy, and kind to all who knew him. Joseph’s legacy endures in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the steady goodness he practiced every day. He will be deeply missed. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Shea Johnson of Oxford; his son, Ethan Johnson of Oxford; his daughter, Avery (Luke Tucker) Johnson of Oxford; his parents, Raymond Johnson and Diane Allen Johnson of Madison, MS; his sister, Alison (Patrick) Vowell of Madison; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tommy and Miriam Cain of Mize, MS; his brother-in-law, Joel (Wendy) Cain of Mize; and one nephew, Colin Opdyke.
