James Hoyt "Sonny" Bush III

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford James Hoyt “Sonny” Bush III, 76, of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, November 05, 2023, at Oxford Health and Rehab. The family will celebrate his life with a private graveside service. James Hoyt Bush III, better known as Sonny to his loved ones and friends, was welcomed into this world on July 21, 1947, in Philadelphia, Mississippi, as one of the three children born to the late James Hoyt Bush and Kathryn Smith Bush. He graduated from the historic Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi. Many years after completing his high school education, Sonny found employment with the Mississippi Industry for the Blind and retired after thirty years of dedicated service. When retirement called his name, he filled his days with cheering on the University of Mississippi Athletic Department, but Sonny strongly favored football, baseball, and basketball. He was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, joining the congregation in 1964 and remaining active until he transitioned to the Oxford community. Although Sonny has departed from our presence, his treasured memory will hold a special place in the hearts and minds of his loved ones. He leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in his absence: two sisters, Arledia (David) Bennett of Oxford, Mississippi; Denise (Pete) Walker of Madison, Mississippi; two nephews: Michael (Janna) Walker of Sacramento, California; Christopher (Angie) Walker of Madison, Mississippi; one niece, Jill (Phillip) Walker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one aunt, Eloise Brock of Crystal Springs, Mississippi; host of cousins and extended family members. The loved ones that departed from this life before him include his parents, James Hoyt Bush and Kathryn Smith Bush. In place of traditional flowers, the family has requested that donations be given to Oxford Animal Resource Center due to his love for animals, especially his sister Arledia’s beloved dog Sadie.
