Gregory Barlow Barron

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Gregory Barlow Barron, 68, of Oxford, MS passed away peacefully at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN on Friday, March 28, 2025, after a battle with Lymphoma. The memorial service will be held at St Peter's Episcopal Church (113 South 9th Street, Oxford, MS 38655) on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2:00 pm. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Greg was Born on February 1, 1957, in Jackson, MS to the late William Fairland and Mary Winn Barron. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Greg Graduated Magna cum laude from Mississippi State University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He received his certified public accounting designation upon graduation and began his career with Touche Ross accounting firm, one of the original big eight firms in the US. After a few years, he joined the boutique accounting firm Shearer Taylor and Lee, that specialized in bank accounting. He enjoyed working in the banking industry, and subsequently became the chief financial officer for Omni Bank, and later a founding member and CFO of Metropolitan Bank. Upon the sale of Metropolitan to Renasant Bank, Greg became the CFO of a new startup bank in Nashville, Tennessee named Studio Bank. Greg retired from Studio Bank in 2021 when he and Amy moved to their current home in Oxford, Mississippi. Greg was loved by all who knew him. His quiet and reserved countenance inspired confidence in others. His unrelenting work ethic was a model for all. He had a marvelous sense of humor, which he delighted in springing upon the unsuspecting, often with a note of mischievousness. He laughed big and often. He lived his life with gratitude and contentment, appreciating life's blessings both big and small, and always finding joy in the present moment. He demonstrated extreme courage throughout his illness, never complaining about the brutal treatment regime and always maintaining a steadfast belief he could beat it. He will be missed incredibly. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 21 years Amy Allen Barron of Oxford, MS; one brother, Bill Barron (Cheryl) of Madison MS; one sister Mary Fairland Ard (Billy) of Pearl, MS; 2 children Taylor Dixon (Tyler) of Brandon, MS, and Max Barron (Conesha) of Brandon, MS; and three stepchildren, Elise Grenley (Dave) of Oxford, MS, John Russell of Oxford, MS, and James Russell of Washington, Connecticut. Greg was the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
