Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Drennon Ray Adams, 86, of Southaven, MS transitioned this life from Baptist DeSoto Hospital on Saturday, March 9, 2024. The family will receive friends at Carriage Hills Baptist Church, 8352 Farmington Drive West, Southaven, MS 38671 on Monday, March 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The funeral service celebrating his life will follow the viewing at 1:00 PM at Carriage Hills Baptist Church. The graveside service will be held after at Blocker Cemetery in Olive Branch. Pastor Greg Hurtt and Pastor Matt Brady will officiate. Drennon entered this world on March 24, 1937 in Bruce, MS as one of four children born to the late Rabon Adams and Joyce Jewel Guthrie Adams. He was also preceded in death by his infant brother Davis Burl Adams, sister Lola Adams Fraiser, spouse Barbara Powell Adams, step-daughter Renee Powell Lewis, and grandson Zachary Powell. Those left to honor his memory include his sweetheart Barbara Elder, Southaven, MS; daughter Becky Adams Sutherland, Texarkana, AR; son Ken Adams “Angela”, Olive Branch; stepson Richard (Revelle) Powell “Penny”, Horn Lake, MS. Grandchildren include Megan Adams Stotts “Bryan”, Byhalia, MS; Kenny Adams “Kayla”, Byhalia, MS; Dr. Dexter Powell “Krista”, St. Clair Shores, MI; Will Lewis “Cayla”, Rockford, IL; Ms. Brandi Sutherland, Texarkana, AR. Mrs. Brooke Sutherland Thornton “Jeremy”, Texarkana, AR; and Mr. David Sutherland, II, Las Vegas, NV. Great grandchildren include Beckett Stotts, Blair Stotts, Amelia Adams, Adelyn Jones, Natalee Lewis, Seth Thornton, Emily Thornton, Bella Thornton, Cory Thornton, and Keegan Powell. One sister Charlotte Adams Welch “David”, Tupelo, MS, and nieces Alison Hammack, Hattiesburg, MS, and Avery Edwards, Tupelo, MS, and mother of his children Patsy Goodson Beadle, Bruce, MS. This man cherished his family, provided for them in many ways through the years, gave unselfishly, and provided Christ like examples and taught them life lessons that will continue for generations. This boy from little Bruce, MS squeezed all of life’s experiences he could. Just to name a few he served in the US Air Force (Anchorage, AK) during the Korean War, was a private pilot, progressed from driver of tractor trailer trucks, to safety instructor, to retiring as Sr. Training Specialist for FedEx Express where he instructed aircraft weight and balance loading, courier driver training, and truck drivers. He could build or repair anything and if he did not know how to fix an item after a few minutes with a repair manual he successfully learned. From annual hunting trips in Colorado, annual NASCAR trips, to cruises, and international travel, Modern Woodmen club, daily breakfast club meetings with the “McDonald Old Men’s Club”, Masonic Lodge meetings, Model A Club, church services and much more, however all these events centered around family and friends. He was a third-degree Mason and thirty second degree Scottish Rite member. His joy for all these items was in the fellowship with others and the event was secondary. He never met a stranger. Drennon loved Jesus and Carriage Hills Baptist Church which he was a faithful member for over 55 years, served the church and he knew life is temporary and his faith for eternal life is in Jesus Christ. He shared this faith with others that will live on forever. The family extends appreciation for the heroes of Baptist DeSoto and Baptist East Hospitals and the Memphis Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center for caring for their loved one these past few months. In place of traditional flowers, memorial contributions can be given in Drennon’s name to Carriage Hills Baptist Church, 8352 Farmington Drive West, Southaven, MS 38671. In honor of Drennon Adam's service to our country, the flag of the United States Air Force will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home the day of the service.
