Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mrs. Bobbye Kay Jackson Shields, 78, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery (1058 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Grenada, MS 38901). Bro. Dennis “Moe” Gossett will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Shields was born on January 20, 1945, in Grenada, MS. As a child, she was instilled with a drive to care and love for others. She was an amazingly loving woman and always put others before herself. Mrs. Shields was also an extremely driven woman. She worked hard on her education and proudly obtained her Master’s in Education from the University of Mississippi. She loved teaching others, and she proudly worked not only as a teacher, but served as the Director of Federal Funding for many years. Being so kind hearted, Mrs. Shields was known to help an amazing amount of people throughout her life. She always took care of others either by cooking them food and making sure they were well fed or by helping others to pay their bill to make sure they had light and good living conditions. Her kindness did not stop there, as she continued to donate to many different charity organizations saving so many lives. Mrs. Shields was also very involved in her community serving as a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She even served as a Worldly Matron at one point. She also was a member of First Methodist Church in Grenada, MS, and St. Andrews Methodist Church in Oxford. She will truly be missed by all who knew her here, but she is finally able to square dance with her late husband, Mr. George Edward Shields, once again. Mrs. Shields is survived by her sister, Phoebe (Jerry) Corder of Collierville, TN; seven nieces, Lisa (Matthew) Harris, Beverly (Clint) Pearson, Tina (Joey) Judd, Anne (Robin) Haire, Mary Linley (Andrew) Sweat, Kathleen (Ryan) O’Beirne, and Ashley (Brian) Russell; four nephews, Larry Lynn (Melissa) Sheffield, John Sheffield, Brett Holland, and Spence (Elini) Holland; and a host of great-nieces and nephews and great great-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Shields was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Edward Shields; her parents, John Sidney Jackson and Kathryn Jackson; her sister, Sydney Gail Jackson; and her brother, Larry (Dot) Sheffield.
