Bernece Bowie Davis

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Bernece Bowie Davis, 90, passed away at her home on February 15, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 starting at 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Parkway Oxford, MS, 38655). A funeral service will immediately follow on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. also in the chapel of Coleman Funeral Home with Bro. Issac Jenkins officiating. Bernece was born April 7, 1935, to the late Virgil Eugene Bowie and Katie Margaret Sandlin Bowie in Halls, TN. She was the youngest of four children. Bernece graduated from Halls High School in 1953 and soon after she moved to Memphis where she was employed by AT&T. It was then she met her future husband, James E. Davis on a visit to the Mid-South Fair. They were married in August of 1958 and drove directly to Anchorage, AK afterward. She was involved in several businesses with her husband and had three sons while in Alaska. The family moved to Oxford in 1966. Bee, as she was lovingly known by her grandchildren, played USTA tennis and bowled for many years. She enjoyed her pool and tending flowers in her yard. Peonies, irises, and buttercups were her favorites. She found joy in sharing them with friends and family, as well as in making arrangements for the church. She was a longtime member of St. Andrews UMC and Mt. Zion Church and she also attended the annual Methodist Campground Meeting. Bernece is survived by her two sons, Kendall Davis (Corese) of Oxford, MS, and Lee Davis (Phyllis) of Brandon, MS; her five granddaughters, Jamie Carr of Oxford, Alexa Byrd (Nathan) of Brandon, Austin Davis of Oxford, Sterling Davis of Oxford, and Corley Beth Davis of Salt Lake City, UT; her grandson, James Davis (Michelle) of Pensacola, FL; and her five great-grandchildren, William Carr, Olivia Carr, Avery Lee Byrd, Henry Davis, and Addison Byrd. She is preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Edmund Davis; her son, James R. Davis; her parents, Virgil E. Bowie and Katie Sandlin Bowie; and her three brothers, James, Bernell and Lindell Bowie. The family would also like to express their gratitude to her amazing caregivers April Buford, Shelia Wooten, Betty White, Tiffany Clayton, and Tracey Bean.
