Scottye Cobb Davidson

Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Scottye Roberts Cobb Davidson went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 21, 2023, in Olive Branch, MS. A proud member of The Greatest Generation, Scottye was born on December 7, 1929, to Mr. Eba Charles Cobb and Mrs. Scottye Carline Roberts Cobb, both of Oxford, MS. She graduated from University High School in Oxford in 1948 and later graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, with an Associates Degree in Business in 1950. She was married to Huntley Gordon Davidson in June,1950. Survivors include her two children, Stephen Huntley Davidson (Kathy) of Olive Branch, and her daughter, Penny Davidson Moore (Roger) of Collierville, TN, one granddaughter, Brittany Davidson Macaw (Matt) of Lewisburg, and one grandson, Jacob Scott Moore (Tory) of Collierville, TN. Scottye had 4 great-grandchildren: Huntley, Lennon, and Blakely Macaw, and Hudson Scott Moore. Scottye loved the Lord and loved her community. After living briefly in Natchez, MS, and Goldsboro, NC, she and her husband settled in Olive Branch, MS, with their young son, Steve. Not long after moving to Olive Branch, she and Gordon became long-time members of First Baptist Church of Olive Branch where she served as a Sunday school teacher and director as well as a long-time member of the choir. Scottye also helped her husband in opening the local Western Auto store in 1954 where it remained in business until 2001. In 1968, Scottye partnered with her friend, Jan Johnson, in opening the Mid-South Factory Outlet store in Olive Branch featuring menswear clothing and accessories. This partnership proved to be one of the most successful in the entire Mid-South area. Scottye went on to expand the business into three other satellite stores located in Jackson, TN, Jonesboro, AR, and Vicksburg, MS. She also helped found the First Christian Church in Olive Branch, MS, maintained ownership and management of the local gift shop at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Olive Branch, and co-owned a local radio station. After a time, she sold the satellite stores and relocated her store to her newly built shopping center, Mid-South Center, on Highway 305 in Olive Branch where the Mid-South Factory Outlet would be the anchor store, and she leased the other 'bays' of the new shopping center. In 1991, she decided to close the store, but she allowed her son, Steve, to manage the shopping center. In 2015, she finally sold the building. Using her innate business acumen, Scottye served for 20 years on the Planning Commission in Olive Branch having been asked to serve by the mayor of Olive Branch. She was also active in supporting numerous political candidates. She was appointed by former Governor Cliff Finch of Mississippi to a 100-member group called Men of Mississippi, being one of only two women asked to serve. Scottye was also active in traveling abroad in order to bring commerce to Mississippi and DeSoto County while serving. She enjoyed spending time with her family along with reading all the works of John Grisham. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in Oxford, MS. Bro Oscar Geeslin and Mr. Ron Eddleman will officiate.
