Rodrick Stefon Armstrong

On July 25, 1972, a healthy, happy baby boy was born to Brenda Armstrong and Carlos Reese. He was given the name, Rodrick Stefon Armstrong, lovingly called "Rod". Rod received his education in the Oxford City Schools and was a gifted athlete with the Oxford Park Commission Athletic Program. Rod loved church. He joined Providence Baptist Church as a young child while attending with his grandmother. Then later he united with Philadelphia MB Church. He was employed as a Line Operator for a shipping company, but his last job before returning to California, was working on the refurbishment of Philadelphia Baptist Church. He loved basketball, but he was a die hard Dallas Cowboy Football fan, along with being a loyal Ole Miss supporter. He had a love for sports with his sisters referring to him as "Mr. ESPN". He was a "mama's boy", never being out of her sight for very long without calling to say, "I'll be right back" (RITE QUICK). He called his granddaughter his little chocolate 'smurf' and did not call himself granddaddy, but said he was her 'PAPPA-ROD-ZZI.' We know that Rod was known for his famous saying, "Right Quick". Well, Rod went to California to see his family one more time. Then he encountered a storm. He braved the storm but it was a struggle and he grew tired. God saw that the storm was rough and he needed shelter. Sunday morning, July 27, 2014, at 7:10 a.m., God granted Rod the shelter he needed when he went into Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland, CA and told the storm to cease (PEACE BE STILL) and Rite Quick, the storm ceased and Rod was at peace. He will be forever remembered by his mother, Brenda Armstrong of Oakland, CA, father, Carlos (Shirley) Reese of Fresno, CA, his children, Jessie Dunn, Martavious Dye, Rodrick Armstrong, Jr., Amaari Howard and Karondria Armstrong; sisters, Ceedral Armstrong and Latoya Armstrong (Namon) of Oakland, CA, LaKara Pegues (Turk) of Oxford, MS, brother, Devin E. Houston of Charlotte, SC, his chocolate smurf, Zoye Dye and grandmother, Sarah Redmond both of Oxford, MS; grandfather, Willie Yarber of Ervin, TX, adopted dad, James McGee, godmothers, Martha Pegues and Sandra Sue Lloyd, godsisters, Monika Morgan, Tonda Jackson and Rhonda Dye, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
