Edith Wilson Weathers

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mrs. Edith Wilson Weathers, 79, passed away November 20, 2022 in Pontotoc, MS. Her family will have a private memorial service to honor her in January. Mrs. Weathers was born April 29, 1943 in New York, NY. She was the daughter of a military family and lived in many different countries all over the world. She was bilingual and could speak English and Spanish, fluently. She met the love of her life in Fort Dix, New Jersey and after their wedding, Edith made Mississippi her home. Edith was intelligent and passionate. She excelled in academics with many accomplishments and accolades under her belt. She proudly worked to receive her Masters degree in Education from The University of Mississippi. She graduated with honors being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Zeta Eta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi. Mrs. Weathers was also awarded the Delta Pi Award for graduating The School of Education with the highest grade point average. She continued her academic excellence with a career teaching elementary classes in Water Valley and then Oxford Elementary, where she retired. Mrs. Weathers had a passion for education and sharing her knowledge with others. She was also very close friends with her fellow teachers throughout her career and after she retired. Apart from her educational achievements, Edith had a passion for helping others. She volunteered through organizations while living in MS and WY. She volunteered time reading to nursing home residents, volunteer work in the local hospitals and other organizations like Operation Christmas Child. Edith would tell you that visiting Atlanta to package shoeboxes for Christmas was one of her favorite volunteer opportunities. Edith was also very artistic and creative. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing quilts for her family, friends and anyone who may have had a need. She donated many afghans and quilts throughout her lifetime. Edith loved the Lord and was an active member of Covenant Church of Oxford until her move to WY. In WY, she attended Cody United Methodist Church and after her move back to Mississippi, Edith attended Hernando Methodist Church. She made an impact on others and she will certainly be missed. Mrs. Weathers is survived by her son, Jack (Deana) Weathers of Nesbit, MS; her daughter, Ruth Weathers of Pontotoc, MS; four granddaughters, Elizabeth Paige (Caleb) Warren of Hernando, MS; Regan (Tyler) Moore, Haley (Seth) Stacy and Lindsey (Ryder) Antonio, all of Pontotoc, MS; four grandsons, Matthew (Callie) Vaughters of Burleson, TX; Preston (Lucy) Weathers of Southaven, MS; Trenton Nielsen of Cody, WY and Luke Watson of Pontotoc, MS; 15 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; one brother, John V. (Jane) Wilson of NY; and a host of extended family and very dear friends. Mrs. Weathers was proceeded in death by her husband, Robert Weathers; her daughter, Lenore Nielsen; her parents, John Wilson and Madeleine Melchior Wilson; two brothers, David Wilson and Bruno Quiros. The family requests that any desired donations and memorials in her honor be made to her favorite charity Samaritan’s Purse - Operation Christmas Child (Shoebox Christmas Program) at www.samaritanspurse.org.
