Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mrs. Virginia P. Jones, beloved wife of Thomas C. Jones, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024, at her home in Oxford, MS. All services will be private for family only as Mrs. Jones wished. Interment will be at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with her husband. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Jones was born on November 13, 1929, in Memphis, TN. At an early age, it was clear that the Good Lord gave her a very special gift. She had the ability to spread light, laughter, and joy everywhere she went. Mrs. Jones was an incredibly loving soul who ended up making friends with and touching the lives of everyone she came in contact with. She was an incredibly selfless and Godly woman that would always make sure others were taken care of before herself. She even made it her life goal to be a source of cheer and blessings to everyone she could. She also had a very deep faith and lived her life to be as close to Christ as possible. Mrs. Jones was also known to be an amazing cook, an avid reader and gardener, and a music enthusiast, as she sang in the choir at Parkway Methodist Church, St. Matthew’s Methodist Church, and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, all in Memphis. She was very much loved throughout her community and her church families. She was a mother figure to so many throughout her life and had such a welcoming presence. Her kindness was not limited to people, as she had an extremely special place in her heart for all animals as well. Above all, she was an incredibly devoted and loving wife to her late husband, Thomas C. Jones. She was a truly kind soul and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Jones is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia (Clarence) Sims of Longwood, FL, Melissa Stacks of Oxford, MS, and Venessa (Bryan) Voyles of Alamo, TN; her son, Victor Cox of Pensacola, FL; four granddaughters, Sarah Russell of Oxford, Christa Sanders and Kayla Singletary, both of Alamo, and Tara Eckmann of Tryon, NC; three grandsons, Kevin Sims and Keith Sims, both of Longwood, and Theron Stacks of Oxford; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas C. Jones; her daughter, Pamela (Bill) Mills; her parents, Victor and Louise Pirtle; her sister, Maxine Cox; and the father of her children, Walter Houston Cox, Jr. Donations and memorials in honor of Mrs. Virginia P. Jones may be made to the donor’s choice of any animal rescue society to carry on her love for helping animals in need.
