Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Vickie Pounders Smith, 76, passed away on June 14, 2026 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. A celebration of life will be held by her family privately at a later date. Vickie was born on September 3, 1949 in Hernando, Mississippi to the late Amos and Katherine Sheppard Pounders. She was known for her vibrant spirit and her love of connecting with others, especially through her favorite social media platforms, where she kept in touch with friends and always had something witty or thoughtful to share. A lifelong hard worker, Vickie devoted many years to Oxford Health and Rehab, where she worked tirelessly in the laundry department. Her dedication did not go unnoticed, Vickie was highly valued by her coworkers and was considered an essential part of the team until her health no longer allowed her to work. Her commitment, reliability, and positive attitude made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Vickie enjoyed the peacefulness of fishing, though she would admit it wasn’t her all-time favorite pastime, she liked it just enough to appreciate the quiet moments by the water. Above all, she cherished spending time with her two beloved dogs, Sassy and Little Bit, who brought her constant joy and companionship. Vickie Smith’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her hard work, her caring heart, and the love she gave so freely to those around her, including her furry friends. She is survived by her son, Kenny Byars (Mandy) of Water Valley, MS; her four grandsons, Josh Smith (Julie) of Pine Flatt, MS, Justin Gordon (Kaitlin) of Nashville, TN, Cody Downs (Bethany) of Water Valley, and Cody Gordon of Banner, MS; her granddaughter, Leah Byars of Maryville, TN; 6 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Bennie Pounders of Ripley, MS. Vickie is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Smith; her daughter, Reba Byars; her two sisters, Nell Jack and Hazel Murrah; her brother, Manly Pounders; and her parents, Amos and Katherine Sheppard Pounders.
