Tom Ratcliff

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Thomas Clifford Ratcliff, 79, of Abbeville passed away on Saturday, February 04, 2023, at his home with family by his side. The memorial service celebrating his life will take place on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 3:00 PM under the Pavilion in the Garden of Memories. Thomas, affectionately known as Tom, was welcomed into this world on the summer day of June 11, 1943 in Lake Providence, Louisiana as one of the four children born to the late Harvey Ratcliff and Audell Culliver Ratcliff. Tom spent nearly sixty years journeying through life with his lovely bride, Jean Weaver Ratcliff, by his side. This union not only brought life to two children but also an immeasurable amount of memories. This man with a joyful heart provided for his family by shifting gears in his big rig and moving dirt with an excavator as a self-employed truck driver and heavy equipment operator. While he was passionate about his work, he made sure to take the time to enjoy life. He was always in pursuit of a goodtime, and found that goodtime by climbing aboard his power parachute, four-wheeler, or motorcycle. Tom lived by the quote “I never worried about tomorrow, it will come soon enough”. This quote, words he often spoke to others, gave him the power to walk through life with a continual sunny state of mind. His infectious spirit often spilled over into the lives of others, simply because of his refusal to let anyone meander about being upset or depressed. His family, especially his children, often had to participate in a special cheer that would lift their spirits. However, above all of Tom’s hobbies, interest, and passions he cherished his relationship with the Lord above all things. The Lord was his true source of joy throughout the mountaintops and valleys of life. It is safe to say that Thomas did not simply pass away; he held the cure to death in his soul, a relationship with Jesus. Although he has departed from our presence, his fond memory will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of his loved ones. The family members left to continue walking down the path of life in his absence include wife, Jean Weaver Ratcliff of Abbeville, Mississippi; daughter, Pam (Mike) Meziere of Abbeville, Mississippi; sister Rita (Dean) Thompson of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren: Chelsea Ratcliff of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; Christian Whitehead of Hattiesburg, Mississippi and eight bonus great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Harvey Ratcliff and Audell Culliver Ratcliff; son, Thomas Brian Ratcliff; two brothers: Jerry Ratcliff and Larry Ratcliff. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is honored to serve the Ratcliff family as they begin to journey through this new season of life.
