Rodney Jay Brooks

Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Rodney Jay Brooks, 73, of Hernando, MS, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on May 2, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church (7630 Davidson Rd. Olive Branch, MS). A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Sawyer Meyers will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Our Savior Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel. Let us remember with Thanksgiving what God has done through His servant Rodney. Rodney was given life by his Creator and was born on November 23, 1950, he publicly confessed his faith and was confirmed. He received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood. Finally, on April 27, 2023, God blessed Rodney with a holy death and took him home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead. He served his country in the United States Navy for twenty-three years. He did two tours in Vietnam. Rodney was also retired from Federal Express after twenty years. He was a reserve in Jacksonville Police Department. Rodney was a confirmed member of the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, where he was a faithful servant. At one time, he was a member of the Green Bay Packers Memphis Fan Chapter. Rodney loved NASCAR and going to the movies. He would take the granddaughters to the movies and let them buy whatever they wanted at the concession stand. He loved his dog, Blue, and they were inseparable. Left to honor Rodney’s memory are his brother, Keith Allen Brooks (Ann) from St. Petersburg, FL; his son, Hugh Swindoll (Kerri) of Hernando, MS; granddaughters, Lindsay Grubbs of Blue Springs, MS, Tristin Symonds of Huntsville, AL, Madison Symonds of Hernando, Savannah Swindoll of Hernando; nephews, Barrett Brooks (Nicole) of Portland OR and Brendon Brooks (Ashlyn) of Boston, MA. Rodney was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-seven years, Vera Esther Brooks; parents, Bill and Marion Brooks; and son, Daniel Brooks. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother, Rodney. In honor of Rodney Jay Brook's service to our country, the flag of the United States Navy will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home the day of the service.
