He peacefully passed on June 9, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto. At present, no formal services have been arranged. Born on the 26th of January, 1934, in the vibrant borough of the Bronx, New York, Mr. Steckler embarked on his educational journey at the esteemed Duke University, where he left an indelible mark on their basketball program. Throughout his illustrious career, he exemplified an indomitable entrepreneurial spirit, gracing various industries with his presence and holding numerous distinguished positions. For a significant portion of his professional life, he served as an esteemed executive in the entertainment industry, representing a constellation of luminaries, including the incomparable Chaka Kahn, the electrifying Heatwave, and jazz legend Les McCann. His love for music knew no bounds, as he embraced and appreciated its myriad forms and genres. A lifelong devotee to the pursuit of athletic excellence, Mr. Steckler remained steadfast in his commitment to physical fitness, participating actively well into his late 80s. His ardor for sports transcended participation, as he derived immense pleasure from spectating, particularly when cheering on the teams representing his beloved alma mater, Duke University. As a pillar of his community, Mr. Steckler selflessly served as the Fire Chief for the Lido Beach Volunteer Fire Department, ensuring the safety and well-being of those around him. Mr. Steckler was also an avid traveler, crossing the globe often for both professional endeavors and personal pleasure. Throughout his life, Mr. Steckler harbored an unwavering affection for the companionship of canines, with a special place in his heart reserved for his current cherished companions, Sammy and Diamond. He shared an enduring and loving union with his adored wife, Noriko, for two decades, a testament to the depth and strength of their bond. The void left by Mr. Steckler's absence will be acutely felt by the lives he touched. In his passing, Mr. Steckler joins his parents, Jeanne and William Steckler, and his brother, Stanley Steckler, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his devoted wife, Noriko Nakada of Olive Branch, Mississippi; his beloved daughters, Tami Steckler (Chris) of Maplewood, New Jersey, Tiffany Steckler of Paris, France, Cathy Steckler of Los Angeles, California, and Danielle Steckler (David) of Los Angeles, California; his cherished sons, Todd Steckler (Jane) of Oceanside, New York, and Troy Steckler (Ann) of Alpharetta, Georgia. His legacy will endure through his ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
