SFC Richard Joe Lytle, Ret.

Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Richard Joe Lytle, 85, of Southaven, MS, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2023. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home (6815 Parkview Blvd. Olive Branch, MS, 38654). A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Bro. Matt Brady will officiate. Richard was born on November 25, 1937 in Memphis, TN. He honorably served our country by serving in the United States Army. After retiring from the Armed Forces, he was an ROTC instructor to high school students and taught for over twenty years. He enjoyed being with kids and teaching his students not only about ROTC, but life skills. Richard was an active member of Carriage Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, MS, where he dedicated his time to taking care of the church. Richard wanted to take care of himself and was very passionate about exercising. He also enjoyed get-togethers, going out to eat, and watching old movies- especially the Western classics. Richard was a tough love. You always knew where you stood with him. He was quite outspoken, and if he thought it, he would say it. He was always up for a good debate. Even though Richard liked to cut up and cause trouble every now and then, he was willing to give the shirt off his back. Richard was loved by many and will be truly missed. Richard is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Sue Lytle of Southaven, MS; son, Dwayne Lytle (Paula) of Bells, TN; granddaughters, Katelyn and Jourdan Lytle of Bells, TN; sisters, Linda Cox of Hickory Flat, MS; Kay Ann Haye of Bartlett, TN; a host of nieces and nephews; and the Meyers’ family. Richard was preceded in death by his father, William Monroe Lytle; mother, Katherine Lytle; step-mother, Sue Lytle; and brothers, James E. Lytle, David L. Lytle, Sr., and Bob Lytle, Sr. In lieu of traditional flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Richard Joe Lytle to Carriage Hills Baptist Church (8352 Farmington Dr. W. Southaven, MS, 38671). In honor of Richard’s service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown on the day of the service.
