Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Robert Jacobson, who died on December 17, 2024, at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, whose life touched countless others with his sense of humor, leadership, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Garden of Memories (295 Hwy. 7 North, Oxford, MS 38655). Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Born on February 4, 1951, in Portsmouth, VA, and raised in High Point, NC, Michael was a man who lived with purpose and a deep desire to help others. Whether through his professional endeavors, his community involvement, or his close relationships, he always sought to improve the lives of those around him. A proud graduate of East Carolina University with a double major in History and Political Science, Michael went on to have a successful 30-year career in retail management with JCPenney and Walmart. His dedication, hard work, and strong leadership earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers alike. Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was passionate about civic engagement and giving back to his community. He served as President of the following organizations: Oxford Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and United Way embodying the spirit of service and community pride. After retirement, Michael enjoyed volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Oxford, where he continued to contribute his time and energy to meaningful causes. He was a man who believed in the power of connection, and his love for technology, particularly when it helped him stay close to his family, was a testament to his constant desire to stay engaged with the people he cared about. Michael also had a deep love for music and shared his infectious enthusiasm with everyone he met. Above all, Michael was deeply committed to his family. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Barbara and Laura, and a loving partner to his wife, Cheryl. Their 45 years of marriage were marked by love, respect, and an unwavering bond. Michael’s devotion to his family was evident in all he did, and his legacy of loyalty, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His absence will be felt profoundly, but his memory will continue to inspire. Michael is survived by his wife, Cheryl Reeves Jacobson of Oxford; daughter, Barbara Jacobson (Kaloyan Todorov and granddaughter, Lilia) of Santa Monica, CA; daughter, Laura Jacobson (partner, Jason Keller) of Oxford; sister Esther Jacobson Chernoff (Norman) of High Point, NC; brother-in-law, Glenn Reeves (Sarah) of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Lynn Reeves-Schaffer (Russell) of Moyock, NC; Elizabeth Reeves Ball (Stephen) of Norfolk, VA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Jacobson; mother, Martha Goldberg Jacobson; father-in-law, Robert Partin Reeves; mother-in-law, Lillian Elizabeth Reeves; sister, Helene Jacobson Liebman; brother-in-law, Robert Keith Reeves; and grand-niece, Isabel Christine Gillespie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (www.themmrf.org), a cause supporting efforts to raise awareness and develop new treatments for this disease. Michael Robert Jacobson may no longer physically be with us, but his spirit, kindness, and love will remain in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
