Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven Mary Nell Sullivan, 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Southaven, MS, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. All funeral services will be private. Interment will be at DeSoto Memorial Gardens. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road East, Southaven, MS 38672) is in charge of arrangements. Mary Nell was born to the late Paul Evans Neal and Mary Louise (McCleskey) Neal, in Houston, MS, with an amazingly loving and nurturing spirit. She loved fiercely - her family, animals, nature, flowers, church socials, and Ole Miss Football. She met her husband and lifelong companion, O.D., in Chickasaw County, MS, where they became high school sweethearts. The two married in 1964, after attending college, and began their lives together, cultivating a close and loving family. After the birth of her first daughter, Mary Nell became a homemaker. Always deeply committed to and involved in her family’s life, she was the person whom her daughters could always depend upon. Mary Nell would always answer the phone and be there for her family, anytime day or night. (Except when Ole Miss was playing football!) Mary Nell truly shined once she became a grandparent. Lovingly known as “Buddy” by her precious grandchildren, Sam and Gracie, were her number one priority. She was a steadfast attendant at all of their baseball and football games, theater productions, and rodeo events. A faithful woman of God, Mrs. Sullivan has been a member of Southaven First Methodist Church since 1966. She was well known to all her fellow members as a social butterfly. She had such a welcoming presence that everyone felt comfortable in her company. Mary Nell will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary Nell leaves behind her loving husband, of sixty years, O.D. Sullivan of Southaven, MS; her beloved daughters, Suzy (Mark) Moore and Sandra (Jason) Suggs both of Independence, MS; and her grandchildren, Sam and Gracie Suggs of Independence; and sister, Nina Scott of Chesapeake, Virginia, to cherish her memory.
