Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mrs. Lera M. Jenkins, 96, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at her home in Oxford, Mississippi. A visitation will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. Bro. David Ard will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Jenkins was born on July 2, 1929, in Ratliff, Mississippi. She always had an incredibly mature mindset, as she married the love of her life, Leland Jenkins, at the age of 16. She was also an incredibly hard worker dedicating countless hours to serving her customers at J.C. Penny. Mrs. Jenkins was the true definition of a Southern Woman. She exemplified the true meaning of being family oriented, and she was so proud to be the Navy wife, mother, and grandmother that she was. She had a kind, loving soul; however, you always knew where you stood with her. She was an extremely straight shooter, but she also had a way of knowing just when a good laugh was needed. Mrs. Jenkins was also a true Christian lady, who loved and adored her church family at Yellow Leaf Baptist Church. She had such a strong mind, and she never seemed to forget anything. She was as intelligent as they came, as she was an avid reader. However, in her free time, Mrs. Jenkins’ true passion was quilting. She put her heart and soul into her quilts, and she made sure that every family member and every friend had a piece of her heart in a quilt. Mrs. Jenkins was also a traveler. No distance scared her, for she would never shy away from packing up and taking a trip across the country. She could also read a map like no other! Mrs. Jenkins lived a long life, leaving behind her legacy in her large family that she loved so dearly. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her daughter, Glenda Warren of Tula, MS; three sons, Jimmy (Judy) Jenkins of Oakland, TN, Richard (Sondra) Jenkins of Tula, and Mike Jenkins of Batesville, MS; one sister, Barbara Raines of Tula; her son-in-law, Gary Coleman of Tula; her special friend, Thelma Phillips of Oxford; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 7 great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends. Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leland J. Jenkins; her parents, James and Ila Raines; her daughter, Debbie Coleman; her son, Steven Jenkins; three sisters, Amanda Louise Gardner, Louise Kirby, and Margaret Welsh; two brothers, Johnny Raines and Bill Raines; her grandson, Michael “Petey” Houston; and her special son-in-law, Wayne Warren.
