Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mrs. Leona Jane Carwyle, 75, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in Oxford, MS. A visitation will be held Monday, March 4, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). A second visitation will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. also at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Thaxton Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Jane was born on July 4, 1948, in Fort Monroe, Virginia. She grew up with such a kind and loving personality. She would always put the wellbeing of others first and always made others feel so welcome around her. These traits led her to ultimately become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Mrs. Jane absolutely loved her career as an LPN and she spent over 20 years of her life helping countless individuals. However, her kindness did not only show at work, as she had a way of taking care of everyone she came in contact with. She was even known as “Mamaw” to so many people, up to three counties away. She had a way of making lifelong friends and impressions everywhere she went. Mrs. Jane also had such a fun-loving spirit. She enjoyed being outdoors and planting flowers all around her yard. She was even a member of the Pontotoc Gardeners Club. She was also a president of the Yocona Chapter Homemakers Club. Mrs. Jane was an incredible cook and an avid sewing specialist. She loved spending time with her friends playing cards, and she loved her incredible church family at Yellow Leaf Baptist Church. However, Mrs. Jane loved nothing more than traveling with her family. Her happy place was anytime she was in a car and on the go. Mrs. Jane had such an incredible personality that truly brought so much good into this world, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Jane is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Tony) Arbuckle of Oxford; her three sons, David (Jill) Carwyle of Oxford, Jeremy “Tiger” (Sandra) Carwyle of Thaxton, and James (Amy) Carwyle of Pontotoc, MS; her mother, Ruth Smith of Oxford; eight grandchildren, Shannon (Ty) Priest and Jordan (Collin) Dill, both of Oxford, Riley Arbuckle of El Dorado Springs, MO, David (Tori) Huckaby and Daniel (Kelly) Huckaby, both of Oxford, Justin Killough of Cincinnati, OH, William (Krissa) Carwyle of Pontotoc, and JonVictor Arbuckle of Oxford; six great-grandchildren, Eli Huckaby, Rhett Killough, Naomi Dill, Olivia Huckaby, Connor Priest, and Isabelle Dill; two sisters, Patricia (Jim) Mayfield of Etta, MS, and Sylvia Zebrowski of Oxford; one brother, Riley (Wara) Smith, Jr. of Oxford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Mrs. Jane was preceded in death by her father, Riley Smith, Sr.; her brother, Richard Smith; and her two husbands, John Wayne Carwyle and William Gates.
