Kenneth Wade Welch

Kenneth Wade Welch, 80, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, January 18, 2023 in Oxford, Mississippi. There will be a social event in his honor at the Penny Bar, formerly known as “The Rib Cage” on the Oxford Square, for friends and family, Friday, January 20, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Kenneth’s family welcomes all friends and family to his celebration of life. Ken was born on July 24, 1942 to the late Vassar and Mamie Welch in Oxford, Mississippi. Being a native of the Oxford/Lafayette Community, Ken was a familiar face to many around. He was known for his unique dry sense of humor, his life of the party personality, and loyal friendship to all those he encountered. He was honorably discharged from the National Guard after serving his country for years and later began his career of a successful Realtor in the Oxford Community. Ken’s hobbies would include his love for all bodies of water. In his earlier years of life, the lake was a main “hangout” spot for Ken. He enjoyed skiing and simply enjoying the outdoors. He loved animals, mainly horses, and also had a special talent for fixing up old cars. Ken owned and operated a used car business for many years in the Lafayette Community. Ken was also a local at his good friend’s auto shop, Mr. Tony Deal and spent a lot of time there with many great friends of his. Ken was very involved in his community and never hesitated to be a helping hand to someone in need. Above all, Ken was a loving father and grandfather to those he cherished most. He was very family oriented and enjoyed any day spent with them. Although Ken has departed from our lives, his friendship, special personality, and love for others will be remembered by those who are left to continue in his absence. Ken is survived by his two children, Keith (Elizabeth) Welch and Suzanne (Paul) Welch Putman; his grandchildren, Madison Welch, Abigail Welch, Sarah Beth Welch, Michael Alex Putman, Andrew Tyler Putman; and one sister, Jimmie Self. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vassar and Mamie Welch; brothers, Don Welch and Kyle Welch; and one sister, Winnie Wilson.
