Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Joe Calvin Albritton, 75, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away peacefully at home on April 6, 2023. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 pm, all at Coleman Funeral Home. Matthew Crowe of Goodman Oaks Church of Christ will officiate. The burial will be at a later date at Taylor-Liberty Hill Cemetery in Farmerville, LA. Joe is survived by his wife, Carolyn Albritton; daughter, Jennifer Swearingen (Larry); grandsons, Hunter Crawford, Hayden Crawford, and Daniel “Hayes” Albritton; granddaughter, Mady Crawford; brother, Danny Albritton (Brenda) and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded by his parents, Totsie and Dan Albritton, and son, Daniel “Tyler” Albritton. Joe, who was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "Popeye,” was born on December 9, 1947, in Farmerville, LA. Joe was a man who lived life to the fullest and touched the hearts of many people in his journey. He was a devoted husband to Carolyn, a loving father to his children, and a doting grandfather to his grandchildren. Joe was a man of many talents, living his life to the fullest, and cherishing every moment with his loved ones. He loved God, his family, hunting, fishing, golf, and watching Fox News. He and Carolyn shared a love for travel, exploring many new places and making special memories everywhere they went. Joe went to Louisiana Tech and played football and baseball for the University. In 1969, immediately after graduating with a degree in Business Administration, he was drafted by the Marine Corps. Joe was promoted to the rank of Corporal after one year and was later awarded the National Defense Service Medal in the Reconnaissance Battalion 2nd Division at Camp Lejeune. He was a true patriot, and his time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of honor, respect, and duty. For the bulk of his life, Joe was a restaurateur owning both a Bonanza Restaurant and multiple Popeyes’s Chickens. After retiring, he had more time to spend with his family, whether playing games, making them laugh with his quick-witted little jabs, or taking them on cross country vacations. He enjoyed cheering on his children and grandchildren with their sports whether it was in person or watching them on the live stream. Joe always was quick to jump at the chance to take them hunting and fishing, as it was their special time to bond and make treasured memories. Joe battled cancer for several years, but he faced it with a strength and determination that inspired us all. He never gave up, and his spirit remained unbroken until the end. Today, we say goodbye to Joe, with heavy hearts, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his abiding love for God and those he held dear. Flowers are greatly appreciated, but please consider a memorial donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
