Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford On July 4th, 2025, Jerry Young, while surrounded by family, peacefully departed into the arms of His heavenly Father. Though grieved by his passing, his wife, brother, sister, grandsons, daughter-in-law, family, and friends rejoice in the knowledge that he is in the presence of his Lord and once again enjoying the fellowship with his son and best friend, Troy. The family celebrates his rich life and lasting legacy. A pillar of the Oxford community, Jerry spent his whole life loving others. Whether as a friend, a banker, a church member, or the patriarch of his family, he was fully committed to serving those around him–thereby earning the lasting love and respect of those who remember him. His family is moved by the outpouring of stories from individuals whose dreams came to fruition because Jerry, as a banker, willingly helped them. Jerry’s closest friends, including his brother Ken and his dear friend Ben Smith, are witnesses to his strength of character, joyful spirit, and dependability. To his daughter-in-law Stephanie, he was a father when hers passed away. Wild at heart and a lover of nature, some of the best memories of “Papa” for his grandsons involve cool mornings in the woods, western films, and stories about bears in the Rockies, along with plenty of homemade biscuits and pancakes, never without a joke. Judy, his wife of 60 years, mourns the death of her high school sweetheart but is at peace knowing Jerry rejoins Troy. She looks back with deep gratitude for the many memories they share. Jerry’s family rests in the hope of 1 Thessalonians 4:13. “We do not want you to… grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.” We know that even now, Jerry is before the Lord and hears the words “well done, enter into your rest!” The family takes solace in knowing they will see him again and that his labors here on earth leave a legacy that will outlast him by generations. The Young family is especially grateful to the kind hospice workers and home health aids who helped to ensure his final days could be spent in comfort in his own home. Thank you, Darren and Jernera. Jerry was laid to rest beside Troy Young in St. Peter’s Cemetery. His family, out of respect for Jerry’s wishes, have chosen to mourn him privately at this time.
