Janice Carol Vinson

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Janice Vinson entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Highland Church of Christ (400 North Houston Levee Rd., Cordova, TN 38018). A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., also at Highland Church of Christ. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. A devoted member of Highland Church of Christ in Cordova, Tennessee, Janice’s walk with Christ began at age 14 when she accepted Him as her Savior at Glendale Church of Christ in her hometown of Newbern, Tennessee. Born on January 2, 1949, to Neely and Bertha Scott, Janice grew up in Newbern before moving to Memphis in 1965. Her professional journey spanned food service and administrative roles, culminating in a distinguished 30-year career with the Internal Revenue Service as a tax professional. In 1979, Janice joined the Order of the Eastern Star, Raleigh Chapter #478. Her dedication to service extended to mentoring young women through the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, where she served as Mother Advisor for Raleigh Assembly #116 and later as State Mother Advisor for Tennessee. Janice’s heart was always open, her home a haven for anyone in need. She was known for her generous spirit and her famous Thanksgiving gatherings, which she lovingly hosted every year since the early 1980s. Her table always had room for one more. She found deep joy in her family and spoke with pride about her daughters, Sharon and Michelle; her grandchildren, Mary Margaret, Garrett, Joseph and Jaden; and her great-grandson, Oscar. Her love for them was unwavering and evident in every conversation. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Neely and Bertha Scott; her siblings Floy McGarrh (Jim), William Scott, Mary “Sissy” Scott, Lloyd Scott (Margie), Gladys Faye Wing (Maurice), and Roy Scott; and her grandsons, Joseph Taylor and Jaden Taylor. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Sharon Ricketts (Paul); her daughters, Sharon Taylor (Bill) and Michelle Vinson; her granddaughter, Mary Margaret Pace (Kyle); her grandson, Garrett Taylor; her great-grandson, Oscar; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. As Isaiah 6:8 reminds us: “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I! Send me.’” Janice answered that call with grace, compassion, and a life well-lived in service to God and others.
