James Ellis Claspell, Jr.

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mr. James Ellis Claspell, Jr., 80, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at his home in Randolph, MS. Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Garden of Memories Oxford (295 Hwy. 7, Oxford, MS 38655). Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Claspell was born on May 1, 1943, in Glasgow, KY. He was always a hard working individual. His determination led him to receive a Bachelor’s degree from college. It also led him to finding a passion in bravely and proudly serving our nation in the United States Air Force. He fought for our country in the Vietnam War, earning many prestigious medals for his acts of valor. Some of his medals consisted of a Vietnam Service Medal with One Bronze Star; an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters; the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with a Palm Device; and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Mr. Claspell went to dedicate 26 years of his life to the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. In his retirement, he worked as a VA Service Representative, assisting veterans still. Apart from the military, Mr. Claspell was a member of the VFW in Orlando, FL, and the Shriner’s and Mason’s organizations in Indianapolis, IN. He was a traveler at heart and enjoyed seeing different parts of the world as often as possible. He was also an avid scuba diver. However, he loved nothing more than relaxing at home and spending time with his beloved family. He will truly be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Claspell is survived by his loving wife, Patsy Claspell of Randolph, MS; his daughter, Jenna (Frank) Taglerferia of Boston, MA; two step-daughters, Jamie (Allen) Rose of Courtland, MS, and Donna (Joey) McClane of Ripley, MS; three step-sons, Gary (Angela) Rasnick of Batesville, MS, Jered Rasnick of Randolph, and Charlie (Jennifer) Rowzee of Pontotoc, MS; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Claspell was preceded in death by his parents, James Ellis Claspell, Sr. and Katherine Shipley. In honor of Mr. Claspell’s service to our country, the flag of the United States Air Force will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford the day of the services.
