Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Elvis “Larin” Crick Houston, 77, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford, with services to follow at 1 p.m. and burial to follow at Mount Zion Church Cemetery. She was born the youngest of five children in Alva. While working at Sears in Memphis, she met her future husband, Cleatus “Sam” Burton Houston, whom she married in 1956. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Feb. 18, 2011. In 1992, she and her husband retired to Abbeville, after building their home on his family land. While living in Memphis, she enjoyed bowling on leagues and coaching children’s leagues for more than twenty years. The whole family looked forward to her sausage cornbread bake and pumpkin pecan pie at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, family, and neighbors, and she was an active member of the Abbeville and Oxford communities. Along with her husband, she volunteered with the elderly associations, Triad and RSVP, being awarded certificates of community service for both. She loved listening to bluegrass music and traveling to music festivals around the South with her husband in their RV. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Estelle Kiger (John), of Abbeville; one son, William “Bill” Houston, of Memphis; one daughter, Debra “Debbie” Houston Kallaher (Kevin), of Memphis; four granddaughters, Kristin Marie Kallaher, of Memphis; Ashley Nicole Houston-Coburn (Matthew), of Olive Branch; Kelly Anne Kallaher, of St. Louis, Mo.; Lauren Michelle Houston Potter (Joseph), of Arlington, Tenn.; and one great-grand-daughter, Brooklynn Nicole Coburn, of Olive Branch. Her husband, Cleatus “Sam” Burton Houston, preceded Mrs. Houston in death.
