Elizabeth Veazey

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Mrs. Elizabeth Veazey, 83, of Oxford, MS passed away July 25, 2023, at her home in Oxford. Per her wishes, there were no services. Interment was in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements. Elizabeth was born March 10, 1940 to Escar Blake and Mary Monette Martin Blake, as the youngest of 10 children. She had such a selfless and caring personality. She always put the needs of her family and others over her own. She spent this God-given ability to care for others to good use for most of her adult life acting as a caretaker for others. After moving to Oxford in 1974, she worked at Graceland Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide for several years. She then worked for the North Mississippi Regional Center as the supervisor over Dogwood Cottage for 10 years. After she retired from there, she continued caring for others by keeping children at her home and later becoming a caregiver for several elderly ladies. Mrs. Veazey had a special place in her heart for babies, special needs children, and the elderly. It was always her calling to care for them and be their voice. She was such a special woman and instilled so many of her wonderful traits, not only to her family, but to all of her loved ones that she care for throughout her life. She was known as “Nanny” and “Mama” to so many different people of all ages. She truly made a difference in so many lives, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Veazey is survived by her loving husband, Bob Veazey of Oxford; her daughter, Lesia Chandler of Oxford; her son, Bubba Veazey of Oxford; three grandsons, Christopher (Felicia) Hudson of Bentonia, MS; Brandon (Natasha) Hudson of Southaven, MS, and Anthony (Chrissie) Hudson of Oxford; four great-grandchildren, Corban Hudson, Asher Hudson, Logan Hudson, and Chandler Hudson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Mrs. Veazey was preceded in death by her parents, Escar Blake and Mary Monette Martin Blake; five brothers; and four sisters.
