Earl Vaughn Jr.

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Earl Vaughn, Jr., 78, passed away in Oxford, MS, on Saturday, January 23, 2021. A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Vaughn Cemetery in Abbeville, MS, following the visitation. Bro. Jeff Taylor will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Earl was born to the late Earl and Hazel Vaughn. Shortly after getting out of high school, Mr. Earl married Edith C. Vaughn and they were happily married for 57 years. He worked as a Plumber and Electrician most of his life. He was a true family man who will be immensely missed by all of his family and friends. Mr. Earl is described by his family as being compassionate, witty, and inventive. He was always smiling and joking around with his family. In any room he walked into, he always lit it up with that big smile of his. He would always wave to others, whether he knew them or not. There truly wasn’t a dull moment around Mr. Earl. Even while he was in the hospital, Earl’s personality and humor didn’t fade. He was always cutting up with the doctors and nurses, telling jokes. The doctors told his family that he wasn’t just witty, he was very witty. The nurses fought over him to see which one was going to get to take him home with them. Earl had a strong work ethic. His family never had to worry about unfinished tasks or projects. He was known to be quite the Mr. “fix-it”, as he could literally fix and figure out anything. He would spend hours upon hours digging for a 10-cent pipe fitting for someone else, because he knew he had it, but he just had to find it first. Mr. Earl would do anything for anybody no matter the circumstances, even giving the shirt off his back. If someone else was working on something and they asked Mr. Earl what he thought, he would always say, “the only thing wrong with it, is that you’re not done with it.” He leaves a legacy like no other. He was always encouraging others and his friendliness would keep a smile on their face. Mr. Earl was truly a role model that displayed a warm, friendly demeanor that anyone would want to mirror. Anytime his daughters or anyone would tell him “Hey dad, that’s a good idea.” He would always respond “Well of course, I thought of it!” His daughters would often make comments about something silly their husbands would do and with the wit that Mr. Earl had, he would shoot back with “well you married it!” He always had some kind of smart remark to fire back with during any conversation. His wit and cleverness will truly be missed. Mr. Earl is survived by his three daughters, Betty (David) King, of Quitman, MS, Angela (Mark) Holsclaw, of Louisville, KY, and Katherine (Billy) Slone, of Abbeville, MS; seven grandchildren, Samantha (Patrick) Logan, of Quitman, Brad Myrick, of Fulton, MS, Timothy (Heidi) Dykes, of Colifax, IA, Miranda (Corey) Floyd, of Louisville, Hunter Holsclaw, of Louisville, Jessica (Evan) De Mott, of Franklin, TN, and Merideth Vaughn, of Oxford, MS; and three great-grandchildren, Gabe Logan, of Quitman, Ryleigh Dykes, of Colifax, and Isabella De Mott, of Franklin. Mr. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Hazel Vaughn; his wife, Edith C. Vaughn; and one son, Timothy Lee Vaughn.
