Bobby Joe Jenkins

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Bobby Joe Jenkins, 75, of Oxford passed away on Friday, September 08, 2023 at his residence. The family will celebrate his life with a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Bobby was born on May 15, 1948, in Oxford, Mississippi. He was the youngest son of the late Elton Jenkins and Lucille Gill Jenkins. Bobby was married to Wilma Sledge Jenkins, his beloved wife, for nearly forty six years before her passing in January 2022. In his early years, Bobby faithfully served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Upon obtaining his honorable discharge, he returned home to Oxford, where he remained throughout his life. He found a career with the Whirlpool Corporation as a master lab technician in the engineering department. Bobby was a talented gardener who used his green thumb to grow just about every type of produce imaginable; however, he was best known for the tomatoes. In conjunction with his passion for gardening, he enjoyed fishing with his best friend Wayne Loner. He also enjoyed the occasional squirrel or deer hunt. Perhaps his best roll was being a wonderful grandfather to his two grandchildren. They were the light of his life. Bobby’s favorite football teams, the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys were often displayed on his television, along with any wrestling match he could find. Although Bobby has departed from our lives, his treasured memory will hold a special place in the hearts of his loved ones. He leaves behind a loving family to continue walking down the path of life in his absence; daughter, Teresa (Tim) Whitehead of Oxford; step daughter, Lisa (Earnie) Harrison of Oxford; two grandchildren: T.J Whitehead of Oxford; Brooklyn (Jack Jordan) Whitehead of Oxford; sister, Ann Harmon of Paris; brother-in-law, Chuck McCracken of Southaven; a host of nephews and nieces along with honorary family members: Jimmy Bratton, Wayne Loner, Lewis Chandler, Betty King and Ashley Wilkins (Spirit) and Georgia Bryant; four grand dogs; Ceaser, Peebles, Lily, and Weidlin. The loved ones that departed from this life before him include: his beloved wife, Wilma Sledge Jenkins; two brothers: Sonny Jenkins and John Jenkins; three sisters: Betty Miller, May Davis, and Dorothy McCracken. The family would like to send their sincere gratitude to Dr. Erik Richardson and his staff, Dr. Allen and his staff at Baptist Cancer Center, Baptist Home Health ( two very special nurses: Ashley Pass and Brooke Taylor). In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Old Union Cemetery fund or Nine lives Cat Rescue The staff at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is honored to serve the Jenkins family as they begin to walk through this new season of life.
