Bettie Stoddard Carpenter

Coleman Funeral Home Olive Branch Bettie Stoddard Carpenter, 79, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 to be with our Lord. She was surrounded by members of her loving family who had a chance one last time to express their love to her before she transitioned into Heaven. There will be a family viewing prior to the graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch on Friday, September 29, 2023. The graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Blocker Cemetery in Olive Branch, MS. Rev. Al Canon from First Baptist Church of Southaven, MS will officiate the service. She was born on May 27, 1944 in Kearney, Nebraska. She attended Murrah High School in Jackson, MS, where she was a majorette. Bettie attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, known as Tri Sig. She became a flight attendant (stewardess) for United Airlines, and she quit the airlines to come home to marry Mickey Carpenter. Later, Bettie helped build a thriving business with her husband, Mickey Carpenter, called Corrosion Piping Products, where she was the bookkeeper for thirty-two years. They sold their company and were able to retire early and spend many of their golden years together after retiring. Bettie was a dog lover her entire life, and became interested in showing Pomeranian dogs. Throughout this time, she had over 10 champion dogs with her passion for showing dogs. She was a member of the American Pomeranian Organization, the American Kennel Club, and the Memphis Kennel Club. In her free time, Bettie also enjoyed doing puzzles, sewing, cooking, but she especially loved to fish her entire life with her husband. Her family loved her cooking, especially her meatloaf, smothered steak, chocolate pudding, homemade chicken nuggets, and delicious wine pudding cake. She loved to decorate her home, and more than anything, Bettie cherished time spent with her family. She and her husband enjoyed spending their vacation time on the gulf coast. They often had family gatherings, dinners, and many fish fries that she looked forward to. She especially enjoyed shooting clay targets with the family, and was quite a good shot. Bettie was very involved with her children and grandchildren, and she always made sure to be there to support them in any sports or activities they were participating in. She will always be remembered as a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Bettie leaves behind her husband of fifty-eight years, Milton “Mickey” Carpenter of Olive Branch; daughter, Hyla Metcalf of Collierville, TN; son, Milton “Brooke” Carpenter of Olive Branch, MS; grandchildren, Peyton (Kyle) Struzyk of Cincinnati, OH, Tanner Metcalf of Collierville, TN, Chloe and Eli Carpenter of Belzoni, MS, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Sofee, and her cat, CeCe.
