Alice Katherine Fisk Herring

Alice Katherine Fisk Herring, 92, died Friday, January 18, 2013, at her home in Oxford, MS. Born in Lansing, MI, Mrs. Herring had lived most of her adult life in Oxford, MS, and the greater Washington D.C. area. Mrs. Herring worked at the Pentagon during World War II while her brother, Frank, served in the public health service in Asia. She obtained her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Mississippi and her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition from the University of Maryland where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was employed as a librarian in the Law Library while at the University of Mississippi. Mrs. Herring was very talented and artistic; both of which led to her working with children’s choirs and singing in the choir at College Hill Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the DAR and worked with Girl Scouts when her daughters were growing up. A member of the Severn Run Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Millersville, MS, Mrs. Herring attended College Hill Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 27, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the College Hill Presbyterian Church with Rev. Alan Cochet officiating. All friends, relative, and visitors are invited to the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service for a reception. Interment will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include three sons, Robert A. Herring III (Gail) of Greensboro, NC, Frank B. Herring of Millersville, MD and Benjamin L. Herring of Arlington, VA; two daughters, Robin K. Bibby (Randall) of Millersville, MD and Suzanne H. LeBlanc (Andre) of Oxford, MS; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Additionally she is survived by her loving, dedicated long-time caregivers, Carol Burt and Charisse Harris, as well as Kesha Burt, Keisha Turner, and Sydney Shannon. A special note of thanks from the family goes to Dr. Mona Castle and the entire staff of the Oxford Medical Clinic and her nurse, Tammy Brown of Gentiva Home Health. Her parents, Brandford T. and Matilda K. Fisk; her husband, Robert Alexander Herring, Jr., and her brother, Frank W. Fisk, all preceded Mrs. Herring in death.
