Peggy Ann Kellum Carter

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Peggy “Ann” Kellum Carter, 89, of Yocona, MS passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023 with her family by her side. She was known by her grandchildren as “Granny.” Visitation will be Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford (601 Commerce Pkwy., Oxford, MS 38655). A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Kingdom Cemetery (CR 443, Oxford, MS 38655). Bro. Fish Robinson will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Carter was born on December 8, 1933 to Leland Kellum and Lucy King Kellum in Yocona, MS. She spent most of her life in Memphis, before returning to Oxford in 1997, where she lived until her death. She loved to read and sew, and she was an amazing painter. Being very talented and creative, Peggy also had a knack for quilting. She was always working on a quilt for someone, whether it was a grandchild, great-grandchild, or for the women’s club in her community. She was also an avid cook and enjoyed feeding others every chance she had. No one was ever hungry around her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Leah (David) Smith of Coldwater, MS and Deena Coleman of Hernando, MS; her step-son, Steven Carter of Louisiana; three grandchildren, Ashley (Anthony) Fuson of Vicksburg, MS, Dennis Ruby of Nesbit, MS, and Austin Ruby of Terry, MS; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey Ruby, Avery Fuson, Rebecca (Brian) Love, Reese Ruby, and Riley Ruby; two sisters, Katherine Huckaby of Oxford and Dorothy Jean Godwin of Memphis, TN; along with several nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Carter, Jr.; her parents, Leland Kellum and Lucy King Kellum; her sister, Louise Carter; her brother, Leland Kellum, Jr.; and her great-grandchild, Caleb Nunnery.
