Florice Bailey Cardwell

Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford Florice Bailey Cardwell passed away at The Pinnacle of Oxford on May14, 2024. Florice was born on July 16, 1928, in Vardaman, Mississippi, and she is predeceased by her parents Obera Gregory Bailey Parker and Roye Bailey. She grew up in Vardaman and graduated from Vardaman High School and The University of Mississippi, receiving both a Bachelor and Master of Education degrees. The family will celebrate her life privately at a later date. Florice’s passion for education, her kind and thoughtful nature, and her desire for her students to learn was exemplified in her over 40 years of teaching in her classrooms. Her dedication to teaching touched many lives in Lafayette and the surrounding counties. In the summer she looked forward to working with the Cheerleader Camps at Ole Miss serving as “The Head Chaperone” where she crossed paths with countless sponsors and a host of cheerleaders from all across the country! Florice loved life and was a gracious hostess welcoming you into her home. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid fan of anything they did. You could pretty much find her and her husband to be sitting in the audience or stands cheering you on! She was an incredible cook, cooking from scratch, and received much joy from hosting family gatherings, especially entertaining her grandchildren and their friends. Working in the yard was a favorite past time and was happiest cutting flowers from her garden. She believed in the strength of her family and loved you unconditionally. Florice’s life was a testimony to her strong faith and commitment to her Lord and Savior and was a member of the Church of Christ. Florice was predeceased in death by the love of her life and husband of over 60 years Edwin Leon Cardwell. She is survived by a daughter Judy Akins (Dr.Steve) Memphis, TN; a son Rick Cardwell, Oxford, MS; daughter-in-law Janie Cardwell, Odell, OR. Known as Grandmom to grandchildren Lee Akins (Molly) New Braunfels, TX; Patrick Akins(Madeline) St. Louis, MO; Andrew Akins (Haley) Germantown, TN; Sarah Reed (Philip) Memphis, TN; Ryan Cardwell New York City, NY; and Drew Cardwell (Taylor) Charleston, SC; and to great grandchildren Libby and Max Akins, New Braunfels, TX; Cardwell, William and Ainsley Akins, St. Louis, MO; Bailey, Lela, and Wallace Reed, Memphis, TN; Reese and Leigh Cardwell, Charleston, SC. The family would like to express their appreciation and thank the staff and caregivers at The Pinnacle of Oxford and Home Care hospice for the love and care given to her.
